The first course in Italy to combine Public Administration Studies (LM63) with Social Services and Social Policies (LM87), this programme provides administrative, management and planning/programming  skills along with in-depth understanding of the territories and responses to the needs of those who live there.

The first year is common to both programmes (course location: Alessandria)

In the second year:

  • the programme LM87 prepares students to become a specialised Social Worker (course location: Asti)
  • the programme LM63 prepares students to become an executive or manager in public administration or other organisations (course location: Alessandria)

Accessing the course

The Master’s Degree is open to graduates with a basic knowledge in the political-social and legal sectors and, for the LM87 path, in Social Services, acquired in a three-year degree programme (or previous system of degree courses).

Didactic regulations

The didactic regulations of the Social Work course define the contents of the teaching system and organisational aspects of the course of study, pursuant to provisions of art. 12 of the Ministerial Decree no. 270/2004. The didactic structure and organisation of the course are defined in compliance with the freedom of teaching, and the rights and duties of teachers and students.

To matriculate/enrol

The CdSM is open access

The Course Council will first verify that applicants hold a degree belonging to the degree classes required for admission to the course. The Teaching Committee will then assess the applicant's personal preparation by analyzing their curriculum vitae to demonstrate that they have acquired basic knowledge in the following areas: political-social, legal, and, for those intending to follow the LM-87 path, social services.

If this knowledge is not clearly evident from the analysis of the curriculum, the Teaching Committee will schedule individual interviews to assess whether the applicant has adequate basic knowledge in the political-social and legal fields and, for those intending to follow the LM-87 path, adequate theoretical, methodological, and ethical knowledge and skills in social work.

Career and employment opportunities

  • The Public Administration Sciences programme (LM63) prepares students for the role of executive or manager in the Public Administration sector, and for management, consultancy and territorial planning roles in the no - profit sector and in companies, foundations, trade associations, and research institutions.
  • The Social Services and Social Policies programme (LM87) offers access to the State Exam for the Register (Section A) of Specialised Social Workers. It allows graduates to work as experts in the planning and management of social policies and social/territorial services aimed at the care and support of people and communities in public bodies (Local Authorities, Local Health Authorities, Hospital Authorities, Ministries), private structures and the no profit sector, or as freelance professionals.
  • Both programmes develop the skills necessary to pursue PhD studies and research careers.
