Course overview

This undergraduate degree course allows you to pursue a career as a social worker, providing you with a wide range of skills in the field. It is strongly interdisciplinary (with content in sociology, political science, social service, law, psychology, foreign language) to prepare you for:

  • Resolving and preventing situations of distress/disadvantage for individuals, families, groups and communities
  • Promoting and coordinating new organisations (including non-profit associations) within the integrated social welfare system
  • Performing roles of organisation, planning and management of social services.

Internships totalling 450 hours and profession-based workshops allow you to put your knowledge into practice regarding the organisation of social services and relationships with users.

Degree programme: 3-year undergraduate full-time or 4 or 6 years part-time contract.
You must obtain 180 CFUs to obtain the degree.

The natural academic progression after a Social Work undergraduate degree is the Master’s degree in Society and Local Development, in the Social Work and Political Sciences programme (LM-87), allowing you to qualify as a Specialist Social Worker after taking the relevant State Exam.

Propaedeuticities (Art. 18)

The link contains the indications concerning propaedeuticities of the various years (under updating).

When a teaching is propaedeutic to another teaching, it is understood that the former must be successfully taken before taking the examination of the latter.

Didactic regulations

The didactic regulations of the Social Work course define the contents of the teaching system and organisational aspects of the course of study, pursuant to provisions of art. 12 of the Ministerial Decree no. 270/2004. The didactic structure and organisation of the course are defined in compliance with the freedom of teaching, and the rights and duties of teachers and students.

Assessment of Incoming Skills

Newly enrolled students are required to take an initial skills assessment test.

The test is mandatory in order to evaluate the students’ initial level of preparation; however, it does not affect admission to the programme. Test dates will be published soon.

Graduating

Final exam (Art. 36/37)

The final examination for the award of the degree consists of the oral discussion of a written report on a subject chosen by the student and concerning a topic related to the disciplines that were the subject of the study, or a field in which the internship was carried out, under the supervision of a Course Lecturer. The weighted average of the examination marks and the mark obtained in the final examination contribute to the overall assessment of the degree course.
